Taxi firm Addison Lee to go autonomous – Would you trust a taxi with no driver?

Self-driving car services could be on the streets of London by 2021. Taxi firm Addison Lee has joined forces with Oxbotica (British driverless car pioneers).

Oxbotica will start digitally mapping 250,000 miles of public roads in and around the capital using its technology to create a comprehensive map of every traffic feature. These maps will record the position of traffic lights, road signs and kerbs.

According to the firm, the 5,000 drivers in London will remain employed while allowing Addison Lee’s black Mercedes and Prius cabs to be driven autonomously. First stages are likely to be in corporate shuttles, around airport points or campuses.
